Welcome to 5th grade! Can you believe that this is your last year of elementary school? There are so many new things to look forward to. A verse I like to remember at the beginning of the year is Ephesians 3:20-21, it says, "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. To Him be the glory in Christ Jesus through all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." God will do amazing things to grow us together as a learning community in ways that we won’t expect.
This year, the schedule will look a little different from what you're used to. I will be teaching you Bible, Language Arts, and Science. You will have Mr. Spotts for Math and Social Studies. One other difference this year is that you will not have your own desk. Any supplies that you bring (pencils, pens, makers, art supplies) will need to stay in your binder or in your locker. We’re recommending that you have an art supplies box or pouch that will stay in your locker or binder.
I hope you've had a chance to relax and have some fun this summer. I was able to go on a few trips this summer to northern Michigan and do a few new things. I was able to train for and complete my first marathon! It was a great way to enjoy God's beautiful creation while taking care of the body that He has given me! I can't wait to hear about your trips, experiences, and maybe a few good books that you've read over the summer too!
What a fantastic year we will have together! Please feel free to explore my website: www.mrskortering.com to find out more about me, and what to expect this year. I will also be posting updates to the class Instagram of how the classroom is coming along, and other things I’m doing to prepare for school. My handle is @mrskorteringclass. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, or if you just want to say "hi" at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I can't wait to see you! One of my favorite nights of the year is Open House Night which will take place on Monday, August 27 from 5:30-7:00, then we will join together for a time of worship and prayer from 7:00-7:30. Before you visit the classroom, please make sure that you think about what the favorite thing you’ve read this summer has been. It can be a book, a magazine, comics, an article online, cheats for video games…anything that you read that you really enjoyed. You’ll need to do something with that on Open House Night;).
Enjoy these last few moments of summer! I am praying for you by name. I pray that you will have a great start to the year, and that you will feel God's presence and take on each challenge with confidence and security knowing that you are a child of the One True King.
I look forward to seeing you!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
